TORONTO (AP) — John Tavares scored two of his four goals in the second period as the Toronto Maple Leafs stormed back from the Edmonton Oilers 7-4 Saturday night.

Mitchell Marner scored a goal and three assists for Toronto, while William Nylander and Auston Matthews each scored and an assist. Tavares added an assist on a three-point night, and Noel Accciari scored the other two goals, including an empty net, for the Leafs.

Matt Murray made 22 saves

Conor McDavid responded with his 55th best NHL goal of the season and added two assists for Edmonton. Leon Draistel, Evander Kane, and Matthias Ekholm also scored for the Oilers. Stuart Skinner stopped 31 shots. Evan Bouchard and Ryan Nugent Hopkins had two assists each.

Down 3-1 in the second period, the Leafs kicked off their comeback when Marner intercepted a Ryan McLeod pass against Edmonton’s net before defeating Skinner with his 24th goal of the campaign.

Marner then stole another puck—this time from Nick Begstad—to feed Nylander into the 34th which tied the game at 3-3.

Tavares made it 4-3 completing a three-goal blast in exactly three minutes after he and Matthews forced another out from Darnell Nurse.

The Leafs went into a power play late in the period, and Tavares scored his second goal of the period and 30th overall for a 5–3 advantage going into the 40 minutes.

A rowdy night on the ice finally boiled over eight minutes into the third when Kane and Michael Bunting engaged in a drawn-out wrestling match at the Edmonton end.

Toronto got a strong play that saw Matthews score his 30th before Draystle responded with 42 on another man’s advantage. Acciari then pinned him into the empty net late on.
