Manchin on Biden Budget: ‘Picking and Choosing’ on Energy Won’t Work, We Can’t Be Energy Secure Without Fossil Fuels

During portions of an interview with Fox Business Network that aired Thursday’s edition of “Cavuto: Coast to Coast,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) responded to President Joe Biden’s budget proposal by saying that trying to pick energy winners and losers won’t work and that It is impossible to have energy security “unless you produce the oil, gas and coal you need that is cleaner and better than anywhere in the world.”

Fox Business Network DC reporter Grady Trimble discussed provisions in the budget proposal, including eliminating oil and gas subsidies.

Then Trimble played a clip from Manchine saying, “You start picking and choosing and trying to punish. It just won’t work. It just won’t fly.”

Manchin also said, “You can’t run this country if you’re not energy safe. You can only be energy safe if you produce the oil, gas and coal you need that is cleaner and better than anywhere in the world.”

Manchin also discussed tax rates and said “We have to be fair across the board. Before you start raising taxes, figure out what it’s going to do for the economy, okay? But, on the other hand, make sure everyone pays their fair share.”
