ITV is shutting down CITV as ITVX Kids will launch this summer

The children’s television channel is set to shut down in the fall, in response to “the changing ways in which content is increasingly accessible to children and their parents”.

To replace the channel, ITV is launching ITVX Kids, a streaming base for all ITV content for children aged 6 to 12.

However, ITV will maintain the pre-school LittleBe section on ITVBe and present some early morning children’s content on ITV2 from September.

The service will be launched in July and will be rolled out during the school summer holidays.

Glasgow times:

Craig Morris, Managing Editor, ITVX, said: “We’re really excited to launch this children’s destination on ITVX, which will be home to a wealth of content including new series, established brands and current favorites for a range of ages, in a kid-safe area, with editorial curation to direct watching.

“A wealth of content will be available to stream free of charge, with an option for parents to choose to view ad-free, by subscribing to ITVX Premium.”

The change comes as viewership of children’s TV channels has fallen by 62 percent since 2019, while broadcasting has increased by 30 percent.

Explaining the ITVX Kids service, ITV said: “The Kids ITVX homepage, accessed through the kids-safe ITVX Kids profile, will bring together over 100 great titles into a dedicated homepage, with over 1,000 hours of programming to choose from. , which is nearly double the current offering, with coordinating bars and combos.

The curated collections will feature a wide range of titles, including brand-new programs premiering monthly on the service, beginning in July 2023.

“This new content will span a wide range of genres and themes including comedy, game shows, live action, animation and sports and is sourced from a wide range of small independent distributors as well as regional UK suppliers.

The exciting new shows will complement existing favourites, including Lloyd of the Flies, Lily’s Driftwood Bay, Claude and Mumfie, Mystery Lane and The Rubbish World of Dave Spud, which will also be available on ITVX Kids.

Brand new episodes of The Rubbish World of Dave Spud have been commissioned for broadcast in 2024 and will premiere on ITVX.
