Individual and group bulb shows have been a focus this month for SWI member meetings in the Northeast with mini-shows taking place before the groups gather for their own group shows.

King Edward Linda Thom welcomed 23 members and guests to the fifteenth meeting.

The minutes of the January meeting were read and approved. Some business was handled before the main event of the evening.

The native speaker had to cancel due to ill health, but he made a selection of desserts before he fell ill.

The correspondence is read, firstly a letter from the Vice-President who has unfortunately had to resign for personal reasons and secondly a letter from the Aberdeen Labor Wing thanking everyone for the knitted baby hats Linda had sent them.

It’s time to savor Sheila’s sweet treats with the different fudge recipes the members have been enjoying.

Then there were three mock quizzes for the members to solve which were fun.

This was followed by the usual delicious refreshments presented this month by Mae Wilson and Kathleen Seifright and the raffle was drawn.

The competition winners were as follows –

Flower of the Month- 1 Diane Smith; 2 Alison Milne and 3 Margaret Fraser.

garnished boiled egg – 1 May Wilson; 2 Linda Thom and 3 Diane Smith.

Four Handmade Candy Bars with a Recipe – 1 Diane Smith; 2 Kathleen Mustard and 3 Linda Thom.

Then the rest of the many work items were dealt with.

A vote of thanks was given from Mary Farquhar, to Sheila in her absence making the desserts, to Linda for the contests, to the hostesses, to Linda for presiding over the meeting with her usual efficiency and to everyone who came with us to support us. .

The next meeting is the Ordinary General Assembly meeting on Wednesday 19th April.

At Bourtie SWI, Margaret A Green welcomed members to the annual Bulb Show and Alice Sinclair, Oldmeldrum who was a judge on the show.

Isabel Gordon reported on the recent union meeting in Inverurie.

Business followed and Alice provided feedback on the bulb show entries.

colored stone – 1 Elsie Thompson; 2 Eileen Jovanek and 3 Margaret A Green.

knitted scarf – 1 Elsie Thompson; 2 Margaret A Green and 3 Margaret Cooley.

jar of rhubarb and ginger jam – 1 green margarita; 2 Margaret Cooley and 3 Eileen Jovanek.

three liqueur truffles -1 Elsie Thomson; 2 Isabel Gordon and 3 Margaret Colley.

Wedge of Victoria Sponge – 1 Isabel Gordon and 2 Margaret A Green.

Fruit Loaf Pieces – 1 Margaret Cooley and 2 Isabel Gordon.

Two Easter Biscuits – 1 Isabel Gordon; 2 Elsie Thompson and 3 Margaret A. Green.

Elsie, Isabel, and Margaret A Green share the Cooper Cup for most points in the Bulb Division.

The Duthie Cup award for most points in the Industrial Division goes to Elsie Thomson.

After tea served by Margaret A. Greene, she thanked Alice for her work and helpful comments.

The members then discussed the arrangements for the Inverurie Bulb show and the final plans that were made.

This past weekend also saw the hosting of the annual Ellon Group Show

Snow cover throughout the night did not prevent members from arriving with their entries at Victoria Hall Ellon as Inverurie Group members judged the show and Group Chair Moyra MacInnes presented the awards.

The theme of the inter-institute competition was a musical with some great works from the institutes.
