SHORT BOMB, Va. — Doctors say there is a “perverse” financial incentive structure built into pushing “transgender” drugs and surgeries onto children.
Breitbart News sat down with two Richmond-area doctors — a neurologist and a pediatrician — to discuss movements left in the practice of medicine. Both spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to face professional backlash.
“There is a lot of money in medicine,” said the neurologist at a special talk given by about 130 doctors and medical professionals near Richmond, Virginia, hosted by the medical advocacy group Do No Harm. “I think the dollar stimulus is hard to pass up.”
As reported by Breitbart News, there is a huge difference between how Western Europe and the United States treat children with gender dysphoria.
As the American medical establishment pushes hard for the “affirmation” model — which includes prescribing puberty blockers, sex hormones, and mutilations to children — European countries have sounded the alarm about how harmful such a model could be for children.
While there is an ideological component in America — some doctors in the lecture told Breitbart News that it was initially exported to Europe, not imported from Europe — the monetary incentive structures that have been created are also powerful drivers.
“If you were running a gender dysphoria clinic in the UK or France, you wouldn’t get paid $5,000 per surgery,” explained the neurologist, pointing to the differences between the capitalist-oriented American healthcare system and the social European one. One. “The fact that the paradigm is different is the reason Europeans are able to be honest about the situation.”
The doctor was not advocating social medicine, but rather pointed out a major moral setback that could be present in the American system.
“When you talk about some of these invasive surgeries, you have to be careful to acknowledge that there are entities that make a lot of money from surgery,” he said.
Despite the skepticism of the “gender affirming” model, professional medical associations such as the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) — among many others — still push doctors and patients to pursue it.
The problem, the pediatrician said, was that it “wasn’t overwhelmingly accepted among the rank and file”.
“Most pediatricians feel very uncomfortable that children are not mature enough at 12, 13, 14. [years old] To make decisions to pursue body-altering therapies.” “There may be some, but it makes us all very uncomfortable.”
The transgender issue, the neurologist explained, came about in a “left coast to east coast movement of LGBTQ celebration.”
“He just didn’t acknowledge it. She just didn’t accept it. I kind of built up transgender people,” he said.
The movement attacked the family unit and “exploited” poor family structures to gain legitimacy.
“The vast majority of people would like to see a family unit, and would like to see a family and parents involved in the difficult transition or treatment of that child,” the neurologist continued.
Johns Hopkins specifically called for “the enrollment of children into permanent surgeries for inappropriate gender identity issues.”
“At what stage of a child’s development can you really say they have an irreversible gender dysphoria that deserves invasive treatment?” he asked, rhetorically. “Affected children are children who are not clearly, completely and accurately diagnosed, and then they end up at the age of 18 or 20. [years old] disfigured, their lives truly ruined.”
“This can be avoided by not partying and getting kids into the gassy stuff too soon,” he said.
Both doctors described the AMA, AAP, and other professional associations as “largely dominated by academics.”
“I’m no longer a member of the AMA because I’ve seen the AMA’s leadership morph from being a fairly mainstream, conservative group supporting patients to a very liberal organization that sits very much on the left side of government and pushes a lot of this stuff,” the neurologist said.
The pediatrician explained that these organizations are supposed to be at the forefront of cutting-edge treatments [and] New methods of treatment.
However, the “transgender” issue is not the only drastic change in health care management in America. There was also a new racial focus coming from the country’s medical schools and professional organizations.
A push for reforms along the lines of the critical race theory has emerged in the medical field in recent years.
“It’s driven by the higher education system, not just the medical side, but the academic side, which is there with great strength for wakefulness, DEI and BLM,” said the neurologist.
One manifestation is the medical school admissions process, which often requires applicants to succumb to advocacy of anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as setting racial quotas for admission.
“With medicine,” said the pediatrician, “we want the best and the brightest.” “Medicine, more than any profession, must be meritocratic.”
He said he knows many young people who “have a very difficult time getting into medical school, and the idea of making a decision solely based on race is very upsetting.”
Historically, medicine “rewards hard work” and “achievements,” the neurologist said, adding that patients expect a “very well-trained and competent” doctor.
“I treat everyone. I work at the free clinic. I’ve been involved in health care my whole life.” “I understand and respect the societal issues that we have. But to go and burn down the entire medical education community to try to achieve some very extreme liberal goals is not in the best interest.”
Inasmuch as medical students have to submit essays about their adherence to an ideology, a pediatrician expects children to “play the game.”
“I’m sure there are many applicants who wouldn’t agree with that at all but would write a letter just to, ‘I don’t want to get, you know, I don’t want to create a firestorm.'” I don’t want to ruin my future and not go to medical school. “It’s like a college course, where there’s a left-handed professor, where you keep your mouth shut for the entire semester.”
