Two Scottish Under-18s, divided into the ‘Reds’ and ‘Blues’, met two Welsh Under-18s at Dam Health Stadium on Sunday 4 March.

Players have been selected for these teams based on performance in the U18 Intercity Derby, the regional four academy, and the school/club side.

Scotland will then travel to Dublin next month for the U18 Six Nations festival, with more details to be confirmed soon.

Several of last year’s Scotland U-18 team went on to appear in the 2022 FOSROC Super6 and are currently representing Scotland U20 in the U-20 Six Nations, including Scotland U-20 co-captain Liam McConnell.

A 26-man coaching staff has been selected by coach Ross Miller, who will designate a squad for the game later in the week.

Ahead of the match, Miller said: “It was good to get some competition in the playing environment last weekend. Newcastle are a strong team and they asked us some questions, so it was a useful part of the programme.”

“We’ve played Wales before with two teams, and for me exposing 50 players to that level of rugby is really the aim of this part of the programme. Now we’ve reduced the squad and played one game.

“The 26-man squad is exciting and it’s our first real test with this smaller squad that we’re really looking forward to.

The guys are clearly looking forward to Sunday as well. What I’ve picked up on the group so far is that they’re enjoying the program, they’re definitely up for challenges and they have a real appetite for more.

“They learn quickly, they’re starting to adapt, and they have a really good work ethic which is key to our program.”
